An extract from a beautiful painting of Sophia, Black Goddess of Wisdom, painted and gifted to me by a client.

“Women of Jerusalem, I am dark and beautiful, dark as the desert tents of Kedar, and beautiful as the draperies in Solomon’s palace” (Song of Solomon 1:5)

And thus are we all beautiful in the union of our shadow and our light.

Sophia, Black Goddess of Wisdom, Mary Magdalene, Lilith, Eve – Gnostic goddesses of the shadow and the light – I call to you.

Thank you for always holding me in your loving arms, even when the rain falls so relentlessly that I can no longer feel your protection.

Thank you for not abandoning me in those times when I have raged against you and the injustice of my suffering.

Thank you for teaching me how to trust that you are still there even when I have lost all faith and hope.

Thank you for being my sister circle in the times when I have felt so alone and isolated.

Thank you for giving me the courage to fall in love with my shadow, to recognise the power of my wounded heart, to transform my shame into love and compassion.

Thank you for refusing to hide your shadow behind a veil of light.

Thank you for your dark, wild, uncompromising, unashamed honouring of yourself and all women.

Thank you for showing me how to dance in the rain in the safe knowledge that you are all dancing with me.

Blessed Be
