Words written in my birthday card by my beautiful, autistic son Zac, with the Sophia-Magdalene Angel he chose to give me as my present so that she can go on my altar when she’s not adorning our Christmas Tree.

And look at that gorgeous smile nearly a year after his 10 hour facial reanimation surgery in January.

It can be so easy to assume that an autistic child doesn’t get what’s going on around them because they spend so much of their time in their own world, but my son doesn’t miss a trick…he totally gets me and what’s important to me.

Needless to say, we were all in tears!
