Holy Wednesday commemorates the day that Yeshua visited the Pharisee Simon’s house where Mary of Bethany (Magdalene) approached him with her alabaster jar of spikenard.

“Standing behind at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.” (Luke 7:38)

When Simon is repulsed by a woman he considers to be a “sinner” touching the prophet, Yeshua tells him the Parable of the Two Debtors, in which he says:

“Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven – as her great love has shown.” (Luke 7:44)

A traditional Christian interpretation of this parable is that Mary Magdalene is capable of expressing love because Yeshua/God has forgiven her “sins”.

Our Gnostic interpretation of this at The Avalon Rose Chapel would be that Magdalene was able to express love because she had forgiven herSELF for her shadow feelings and behaviours in communion with the Divine.

This profound Rose teaching from the Sacred Marriage of Magdalene and Yeshua is particularly apt for this Full Moon in Libra, which is shining its light on the ways in which we relate to others.

If we are to relate and be in service to others from a place of balance, harmony, love and respect, then first we must do the internal work of forgiving and integrating our own shadow.

Through forgiving and loving ourselves, we are then able to forgive and love others.

That is not to say that their transgressions against us are OK, or that we need to collapse our boundaries, but that we are more able to find it in our hearts to understand the wounding that lies beneath their shadow behaviour and to forgive them for it through our capacity to love and feel compassion.

The next two weeks creates the perfect time to strike a balance between retreating in order to forgive and love yourSELF, and reaching out in relationship to others with loving kindness.
